On Juneteenth, the Trump administration is defending the removal of a National Park Service exhibit in Philadelphia that told the story of the nine people George Washington enslaved at the President’s House. A federal appeals court has now allowed the exhibit to stay down on technical grounds, leaving empty walls where names, facts, and history once stood beside the Liberty Bell. The government can pull panels from a wall, but it cannot make slavery unreal, and it cannot stop people from saying the names and telling the truth they tried to strip away.
